About Glød Light Festival

Glød is a newly established festival for light art in Stavanger that invites the audience to experience, explore, and be moved by the power of light. The event is free and open to everyone, aiming to be a unifying space for residents during a dark time of the year.

Who Can Apply?

We welcome contributions from a variety of artistic disciplines, including but not limited to lighting designers, artists, light artists, architects, designers, and scenographers. Applicants should have experience working with light as a central part of their practice.

Possible Locations

We primarily seek installations for zones and locations in the city center of Stavanger.

We will contact all submitters during the spring of 2025

Unfortunately, we cannot provide individual feedback to applicants who are not selected. Nominated artists will be invited to an informal interview where they can present themselves and discuss the ambitions and plans for their projects.

Submitted contributions will be evaluated based on:

• Artistic quality.
• Target audience and how the art will engage the target audience.
• Project management ensuring progress and production quality.
• Sustainable production and opportunities for reuse of the entire or parts of the artwork.
• Physical accessibility for as many people as possible.
• Innovative and creative use of technology that encourages interaction and engages a broad audience.
• Weather-resistant construction and quality that withstands rain, snow, storms, and temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius.
• Total costs.

The curatorial team will select projects from these cost categories:

• € 10 000 – 15 000
• € 5 000 – 10 000
• Up to € 5000

Application process and requirements for the application:

• Create one PDF with all information
• Maximum file size of 10 MB
• Maximum of 10 pages (including the cover page)
• Language: Norwegian or English

• Illustration of the artwork
• Name of the artwork
• Name of the artist/artists
• Total cost you are seeking support for
• Contact information

About the Artwork (maximum one page)

• Description of the artist’s/artists’ vision and how it can be related to Stavanger Glød.
• Description of the surroundings intended for the work, and any proposed locations in Stavanger.
• Technical specifications indicating how the artwork will be installed, what equipment is required for installation, how much space is necessary, maximum power load, and any other requirements.

Please note that the electrical equipment must be CE marked and approved according to NEK 502. The power system in Norway is 230V IT network and 400V TN network.

Visualization (maximum five pages)

• Video, animation, or sketches that visualize the artwork and the physical size of the installation.

About the Artist/Artists (maximum two pages)

Artist’s/Artists’ portfolio, references, and CV.

Budget (maximum one page)

• The budget must include all costs for which you are seeking support and should be detailed (e.g., artist fees, travel and accommodation expenses, installation costs, shipping). The total amount should include VAT.

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Glød Light Festival will sign a collaboration agreement with the selected artists. The agreement is intended to benefit both parties
